The market: AI spend is a black box
"I'm spending $200K a year on Copilot, Cursor, and Claude. But I genuinely can't tell if any of it is working."
That's the question every board now asks - and no tool could answer. Spend is invisible, code changes can't be attributed to AI, and leaders have no data to justify the investment.
#02
The product: built for engineers, not leaders
Milestone was functional when I joined, but built for data engineers. The UI assumed technical users, there was no design system, and the numbers came without a story. The people making AI investment decisions couldn't extract a single insight from it.
I ran 12 interviews with VPs of R&D and 5 sessions with CFOs, audited 7 competing tools, and spent time with 8 teams running agents in production. Two findings shaped everything that came after.Data vs. trust. Organizations want top-down visibility. Developers want personal insights without feeling watched. Same data, two very different views.ROI is undefined. Speed alone isn't ROI, so we defined a framework of six measures, from cycle time and code survival to spend per merged PR.
AI Spend Hub is the missing layer between AI spend and engineering outcomes. Cost per merged PR became the number leaders trust, with cost efficiency visible across tools and developers.
Agent Tracking & Onboarding puts every agent, its output and its cost in one view. Anomaly detection flags agents that burn tokens without merging anything, and a 4-step wizard cut setup time from a few hours to under 10 minutes.
Underneath both sits a ground-up redesign: role-based navigation, charts instead of raw tables, and a scalable design system.

Both features shipped and were adopted by more than 13 enterprise customers, including Monday, Playtika and Varonis, and contributed to a $10M Series A. The $/PR metric is now standard in Milestone dashboards.
